Integration is the linking (through changes of ownership such as mergers, acquisitions and takeovers) of different stages of the Chain of distribution to form larger, more powerful organisations.

Integration can be vertical (where links are developed with suppliers and distributors) or horizontal (where links are at the same stage of the distribution chain).
