In the travel context, Carry-on refers to the luggage that a passenger is permitted to take inside the cabin of an aircraft rather than checking it into the cargo hold. It is also known informally as "the luggage they can't lose," as it remains under the traveler's direct control. The primary characteristic of carry-on baggage is that its size must not (or is not supposed to) exceed the allowed dimensions set by the airline, enabling it to be properly stowed in the overhead bin or under the seat in front of the passenger.
